Against the Current: Paddling upstream on the Tennessee River
In the spring of 2018, with rowdy pup Maggie as a passenger, I paddled up the Tennessee River, from Paducah to Knoxville, retracing in reverse the downstream trip I took in 1998, the basis for Paddling the Tennessee River: A Voyage on Easy Water. The new book, Against the Current: Paddling Up the Tennessee River, explores how the river changed in 20 years, how I changed, and what it means to paddle upstream on a dammed-up river. Below are a few images from the 2018 journey, which lasted from March 21 to May 17. You can order Against the Current on Amazon. The book was published by the University of Tennessee Press in February 2021.
